RESPOND Project Participation at Upcoming ECSA Health Ministers' Conference
Dr. Isaac Achawal, Senior Medical Director for EngenderHealth, presented at the East, Central, and Southern Africa (ECSA) Health Community Health Ministers' Conference, held February 15-19, 2010, in Kampala, Uganda. The conference brought together Ministers of Health from member states of the ECSA Health Community, senior officials from Ministries of Health, experts, health researchers, heads of health training institutions, and diverse collaborating partners in the region and beyond, with an aim of identifying policy issues and recommendations in improving the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of health services. The 50th ECSA Health Ministers Conference comes at a critical juncture in the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target period leading up to 2015 and provided stakeholders the opportunity to take stock of a number of critical areas that have contributed to, as well as impeded, the much-needed acceleration and scale-up in the provision of health services in the region. The presentation focused on the role of family planning in meeting the MDGs.
