RESPOND and USAID Staff Coauthor Review Article on Injectables and Implants
RESPOND Project Clinical Director Dr. Roy Jacobstein and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Senior Epidemiological Advisor Dr. Chelsea Polis have coauthored a comprehensive review of progestin-only injectables and implants. The invited paper appears in the Best Practices & Research series of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, in the August 2014 issue, which is devoted to “Challenges in Fertility Regulation.” Their paper summarizes salient characteristics, recent research, epidemiology of use, programmatic considerations, and particular areas of controversy surrounding progestin-only contraceptive injectables and implants, including possible associations with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
